Dear Friends,
I hope that you are well and happy. Today is the first Saturday in more than a month, that I am at home in the UK and can afford to spend a bit more time for myself and my family! March has been totally crazy; during the last 20 days I travelled for concerts in Nicosia, Berlin and Munich, and in between of these I also rehearsed Traviata in London, giving myself zero time to rest.
Thankfully, everything went very well and I now look forward to a little bit of rest before I perform the role of Violetta in the middle of April. The orchestral concert in Nicosia at the beginning of March was a very nice collaboration with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and conductor Carolos Trikolides with whom I had the pleasure to work with for the first time, and hopefully not the last! He is based in Thessaloniki, where I still haven’t sang and very much look forward to an opportunity to sing in this beautiful town in the North of Greece.
With only a day in London to unpack, prepare the new repertoire, and pack heavier clothes, I was soon on my way to Berlin where I was giving a concert on the 8th of March, the International Women’s Day! I can’t really describe to you how much I loved Berlin. I don’t know what it was, I just hope that I will sing again in Berlin soon. The concert took place at the Konzerthaus, right next door to the Staatsoper, where our rehearsals with the excellent Piano Trio musicians took place.
Straight after that, and without a day’s rest, I returned to London where for the next ten days I rehearsed Violetta from La Traviata, the role that I absolutely adore and hope to sing many more times in the future. I enjoyed every minute of the rehearsals, despite the fact that by the end of a whole day’s work I was physically and mentally exhausted. European Chamber Opera’s terrific cast, under the excellent music direction of our conductor Carl Penlington-Williams, will be travelling to Kuwait in the middle of April to perform two shows of a full outdoors production. To be honest with you, I simply can’t wait to perform this role!
Straight after the Traviata rehearsals in London, my pianist arrived from Athens to rehearse with me for a recital we gave in Munich on Monday 22 March. Despite the little time we had to rehearse, the demanding programme, and the BA strike, Ms Mouzalas and myself, gave a wonderful recital at Gasteig Konzertzentrum, at the opening of the annual Zyprischer Frühling celebrations, organised by the Cultural Office of the Cyprus Embassy in Berlin. We hope that this project will tour in Germany in the following months and that our collaboration with this annual festival will continue.
I am looking forward to all forthcoming work; Traviata is the main thing in April, but at the same time I will be preparing for an opera gala in May, where I will be singing arias from Norma, La Traviata, La Boheme, Carmen and Giuditta. How exciting!
I promise to keep in touch and write again very soon. Thank you to everyone for reading my blogs, visiting my website, and supporting me in what I love doing most: SINGING!
Have a great weekend,
Katerina xxx
