Of the Beautiful Kingdom 2 ...

… you might be wondering what I am referring to with the above title!

Of the Beautiful Kingdom 2 is the World Premiere I am working on at the moment and will be performing soon at PALLAS Auditorium in Lefkosia. Book your seats early to avoid disappointment, to hear this beautiful Song Cycle composed by Constantinos Stylianou, based on contemporary Cypriot poetry. A year and a half after I performed the first cycle Of the Beautiful Kingdom, I am delighted to be singing the second part of the cycle, with tenor Christian Zenker and pianists Elena Mouzalas and Nicolas Costantinou. The concert will take place on Friday 29 January, at 8:30pm, at PALLAS Auditorium in Lefkosia, and the entrance to the concert is free.

I am thoroughly enjoying the learning process of Stylianou’s songs, the poems are excellent too, and the whole cycle is flooded with beautiful melodies for the voices, as well as a fantastic duet at the end of the programme for soprano and tenor. Stylianou’s writing is very operatic and it is something that excites me a lot, as he uses the whole range of the voice. He portrays the capabilities of the singer and combines the vocal line with difficult but very intelligent piano writing. The result is a rich, almost orchestral song cycle, that feels more like singing operatic arias than lieder. Utterly exciting and challenging, I look forward to the rehearsals and the concert and hope that our collaboration will continue to grow in the years ahead.
