White Christmas

Dear All,

I’m writing a blog from the beautiful, ‘white’ countryside of Northwood where Dimitris and I moved recently, to wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Successful 2010! It’s so nice to spend Christmas at home with the family, watching the snow and feeling cosy…

Another busy and productive year is coming to an end, and welcoming 2010 makes me feel very happy and excited! I’m looking forward to everything the New Year will bring and to all forthcoming engagements. Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at St. John’s Smith Square was a huge success, and I am truly delighted to be asked by the orchestra to sing Verdi’s Requiem for them in 2011. It was a real pleasure to work with Orlando Jopling again, the conductor of Poulenc’s one-act opera La Voix Humaine. Talking of which! How could I forget to mention that my website designer has very kindly added a lot of material on the website before Xmas. Thank you so much Eddie, I really appreciate it!

You can hear extracts of La Voix Humaine on the Audio Page of the website. It is a live recording of the opening night at Kypria International Music Festival 2009, with Orlando Jopling conducting the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. I hope you do enjoy this fabulous piece, which I would LOVE to perform again and again! Eddie has also added many brilliant photos on all Images Pages; there are photos of the production of La Voix Humaine, new photos added under ‘Katerina in Concert’ and ‘in Various Informal Photos’. Oh, and don’t miss the new pics under ‘Behind the Scenes Photos’ where you can see some of the photos taken while on tour in Japan and Thailand!

It’s such a joy for me to be working on the whole role of Violetta from La Traviata, which I hope to be performing soon. Along side of that, there is a lot of contemporary repertoire to learn. The first big concert of the New Year is a world premiere of Constantinos Stylianou’s song cycle Of the Beautiful Kingdom – Part II, for soprano, tenor and piano. I am truly delighted to be performing this cycle, with pianist Elena Mouzalas and tenor Christian Zenker.

I will keep you posted with everything as we go along, but for now, I send you lots of Love and Best Wishes for Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year!
