… I was truly delighted with my nomination for the 2008 Woman-of-the-Year Awards of the Madame Figaro Magazine. But to actually win the Singer-of-the-Year Award was indeed very thrilling and very rewarding! The awards ceremony took place on the 10th of February 2009; comes the end of January and I’m still trying to manage the diary and see if it’s possible to attend the ceremony in Cyprus, even for that one day… which is what I did, not thinking at all that I may win the award! … In the meantime, OK! Magazine Cyprus had asked me for an interview and shooting back in January, and so I thought that it would be a good idea to fly out there and combine the two things, in between of concerts here in the UK… which is what I ended up doing in the end.
Madame Figaro Magazine and Dias Media Group deserve a very big ‘Thank you’ and ‘Congratulations’ for organising the Woman-of-the-Year Awards to a very high standard, and for making this an annual event to honour women. A very big ‘Thank you’ goes also to everyone who voted for me, and to my family and friends who are always there for me, through the bad and the good times, supporting and encouraging me in their own special way.
Back in the UK and straight into singing again; we gave a very nice concert on Valentine’s Day with the Leicester Symphony Orchestra and conductor Roland Melia. It was a real pleasure to work with Roland again; our first collaboration goes back a few years when Roland was the conductor of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. I’m also working at the moment on the role of Mimi from La Boheme, a role that I absolutely adore. I will be singing Mimi with the European Chamber Opera in Dubai in a few days and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s been non-stop learning and singing over the last few months for which I am very grateful.
After Mimi I return to London where I have two concerts at St. John’s Smith Square. The first one is a memorial concert to celebrate the Life and Music of Francis James Brown, where I will perform three beautiful Greek songs with pianist Nigel Foster, on poetry by one of the most renowned modern Greek poets, Konstantinos Kavafis. The second concert at St. John’s at the end of March is an orchestral concert with the Royal Orchestral Society conducted by Orlando Jopling. Orlando is a wonderful conductor and I am delighted that he asked me to sing Tatiana’s Letter Scene from Eugene Onegin and the Csardas from Die Fledermaus. I’m looking forward to the concert!
I’ll be writing again soon. It’s kind of late now so I will sign off with the usual Greek expression ‘Kalo Mina’ as I notice that it’s the first day of the month! It means: ‘May you all have a good month’ !!!
Enjoy the first day of Spring!
