For the Love of Life

Dear friends,

Greetings and Happy New Year! It’s been crazy on my end even though it’s just the beginning of the year, hence not writing earlier in January… I haven’t forgotten my promise in the previous blog, so I am writing while we are still in January!

2009 started in a very special way for me, with a one off concert ‘For the Love of Life’ in aid of PA.SY.KAF. (The Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends), which took place at PASYDY Auditorium in my home town of Nicosia. I was delighted to be joined (for the second time, and not last…) by tenor James Edwards and pianist Anthony Legge for what it was a fantastic evening of French love songs, passionate Italian opera arias, and love duets from Madama Buttterfly, La Boheme and La Traviata. The audience turn out was extremely good and I was very happy that the charity raised a lot of money from this concert. You will soon be able to see photos of the concert on the website, as well as a couple of video clips with extracts from the concert including Tosca’s aria Vissi d’arte.

I am delighted that James and I will be doing more work together next month, performing on Valentine’s Day at De Montford Hall, with conductor Roland Melia and the Leicester Symphony Orchestra. I have a lot of repertoire to prepare… for all forthcoming work, including the Valentine’s Gala and another orchestral concert I have at St. John’s, Smith Square in March, with conductor Orlando Jopling. It’s wonderful to be asked to sing at St. John’s, one of the most beautiful churches/venues in London; at this concert I will be performing Tatiana’s letter scene from the opera Onegin, and the Czardas from Die Fledermaus. So exciting! You can see dates and details of forthcoming engagements on the CV/Diary page, and make arrangements to attend!

With forthcoming concerts, travelling, learning new repertoire, auditions, Russian coaching, teaching, and being a wife, there’s very little time left for myself! No, I don’t complain. I am very thankful to be busy and healthy, and wish the same to all of you.

I’ll be in Nicosia in February, for the awards ceremony of the Madame Figaro Magazine 2008 Woman-of-the-Year Awards. I was so pleasantly surprised when I received an email some months ago saying: ‘We would like to nominate you for the 2008 Woman-of-the-Year Awards of our Magazine, and would be delighted if  you accepted the nomination…’

I’ll write again next month, I promise! Once I’m back in London and have a bit more time.

I wish you all the very best, for the rest of the year and always.
