Athens

Hello! and apologies for not writing earlier… I have been very busy lately which is great, even though it kept me away from my blog page! Working in Athens in May was a great thing to do and I can’t thank enough ALL my friends in Athens who came to the concert, some of them I hadn’t seen for years!!! What a vibrant city Athens is; and so are the people there,  full of excitement and passion, ‘restless’ at times, but very authentic and honest. The concert and collaboration with Greek pianist Elena Mouzala went very well and I am delighted to be asked to do more work in Athens in November 2008. I’ve been offered my debut at Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall, performing with the ERT National Symphony Orchestra the world-premiere of Christos Pitta’s orchestral poem 1973, on poetry by Vassilis Vassilikos. While in Athens in November I will also give a concert at the B & M Theocharakis Foundation for the Fine Arts & Music, within the Festival Gyrw apo to Piano – Around the Piano; I will be singing some of the most beautiful Chopin and Liszt songs with pianist Vassilis Tsabropoulos.

It’s always nice to be back in London, where the weather has been very good lately, with long, sunny and very inspiring days! I’m trying to catch up with my friends while learning repertoire for forthcoming concerts and keeping up with a lot of admin work related to my forthcoming singing engagements, finalising the diary for the rest of the year and working for a few charities as well. I’m preparing for a concert which will take place at the residence of the British High Commissioner in Cyprus. I’m truly delighted to be asked to sing at this beautiful fund-raising event for the Cyprus Eating Disorders Association and have chosen to sing the arias from Rusalka, I Pagliacci and Madame Butterfly, plus a very contrasting song as an encore in case the guests want to hear more! which I’m not revealing as I would like to keep it as a surprise…

After that I’m singing in London during the first week of July, within the Greek Festival of Youth Arts EKON, where I will perform two beautiful songs by young Cypriot composer Christina Athinodorou; the songs are from the song cycle Four Songs in the time of War, on some exceptional poetry by William Morris and Walter de la Mare. I’ll be writing again by then, I hope! Otherwise I will update you on all my news some time in July. But for now it’s goodnight, and all the very best wishes to everyone!

kissesxxx
