About Katerina

Katerina Miná is making a name for herself as one of the finest sopranos of her generation. Originally a Pianist and Music Teacher, opera soprano Katerina studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London where she gained her BMus (Hons) Degree and PGDip (Opera). Her opera studies were supported by the Corporation of London and the A.G. Leventis Foundation.

The London based Greek-Cypriot soprano is the winner of the 2008 Madame Figaro Magazine Singer-of-the-Year Awards, and a prize winner in two International singing competitions, the “1st Concorso Vocale Internazionale di Musica Sacra” and the “7th Julian Gayarre International Singing Competition”. Katerina was selected to participate in an opera Masterclass led by Tenor, Maestro José Cura, organized by British Youth Opera.

Katerina made her first appearance at Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall, with the National Symphony Orchestra and Chorus of ERT performing the premiere of Christos Pitta’s orchestral poem 1973 for soprano, orchestra, chorus, and electronic sound track, on poetry by the prolific Greek writer Vassilis Vassilikos.

Most recently Katerina sang the title role in Sakellaridi’s Greek Operetta Vaftistikos with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, Violetta La Traviata in Kuwait and Donna Elvira Don Giovanni in Bahrain, the title role in Poulenc’s one Act opera La Voix Humaine and the roles of Mimi La Bohème in the United Arab Emirates and Fiordiligi Cosi fan tutte in Japan.

Katerina’s new CD, with pianist Elena Mouzalas, has recently been released and features Chopin’s 17 Polish Songs and Schumann’s Frauenliebe und-Leben. The CD is produced by IRIDA Classical.
